Baller...Yep, That's Me

Right after Christmas my neighbor that I hang with a lot asked me if I'd like to join her rec basketball team.  I was a little unsure at first, considering I had not played since I was a freshman in college, but then decided, what the heck, I need to mix up my fitness routine and this might be a fun way to do it.

Fast forward six weeks or so and it's been really fun.  I'm by far not the best one on the team (several of the ladies played in college, one played for Iowa State back in the day!), but I can hold my own and usually don't embarrass myself.  Cardiovascularly, I only felt like I was going to die after the first game - partly because Ash had lost 'our' asthma inhaler and I was pretty sure that if we didn't find it that he was going to have to take me to the emergency room (we found it, thank god).  My shot isn't completely lost and I usually make at least a few baskets every game.  Hell, during the last game I had a steal and a layup!  (Then I collapsed on the floor from all the sprinting).

Anyway, last week was the rec league tournament and I knew going into the evening that if we won we'd have to play again.  Well, we won the first game by like 25 points.  Ash and the kids came to watch.  They were excited.  Helena cried part of the time because I had to sub out sometimes. :)

Then we found out that we would have to play two more games if we kept winning.  Ouch.  Then we won the second game by eight points, beating a team we usually don't beat (according to the players who have played in this league for awhile).  So now we're in the championship against a team that just beat the best team in the league (who beat us by 25 points the last time we played them.)  So, the third game of the night starts and our team is rockin' it.  It's a pretty physical game (think me vs. giant Samoan girls) with some lousy refs but we ended up on top as rec league champions by like 20 points.  Good times.  And I even got a t-shirt to prove it!

Mobility on the Horizon

Harper is doing a lot of this these days:

Gearing up....

Leaning forward...where are my feet supposed to go???

...then back to sitting.

Eight months old today.  Craziness!  He FINALLY started sleeping through the night a couple of weeks ago.  Hopefully revealing this to the public won't jinx him.

He's still a very jovial little dude and pretty content to play and watch Helena all day long.  Helena's a great big sister, even letting Harper play trains with her yesterday.  She designated two trains he could chew on.  So sweet. :)  And he only tore up her tracks twice.

Notes from the Trenches

Well evidently it's been a busy February when I haven't posted all month!  It's also been semi-uneventful as we haven't had any more good poop stories to share.  Although Harper did poop on the carpet today.  Look!  I can come up with poop stories on demand!

So anyway, here's some February randomness...

1.  Helena's favorite smell is eggs according to a worksheet she did at school this week (they're studying the five senses).  And, she told her teacher and entire class that Harper was in the Army (when a military dad came to talk about his job).  Lord.

2. Helena started ballet class this month.  It's once a week and hilarious.  Pics and more to come!

3. We got in some good ski days last week when Ash's Aunt Barb and Tony came to visit us.  Thanks for coming, guys!!!  We love your yearly sojourns to Utah!  Tony, I'll eventually forgive you for trying to kill me on that very powdery black. :)

4. Ash is majorly bummed about not getting a project they bid on in Nevada.  I can't imagine how it feels to work so hard on a proposal and then not get to finish the job.  That said, I am glad that he won't be in a not fun part of Nevada for part of 2011 now.

5. Helena and I made cookies yesterday.  Have I mentioned that I suck at making cookies in Utah?  I'm going to blame it on the altitude vs. my Kansas church cookbooks.  Anyway, we put them in the oven and Helena wanted to watch them bake:
I told her she didn't need to sit there the WHOLE time, but she did.
6.  I think I'm getting sick.  Is it bedtime yet?
