We attended our first Monster Truck Rally on Friday night. It was a reward for Harper related to potty training (yes, we potty trained him over Thanksgiving break...whooppee!). He's had some unsavory issues at school surrounding the relative newness of the situation and we're hopeful this week's developments (& reward!) have set him straight. :)
Anyway, I did not want to go to this event. Harper saw it advertised on TV and BEGGED to go. I tried unsuccessfully to get Ash to take the kids by himself. I tried unsuccessfully to get Helena to not want to go so I could stay home with her. No dice. So, off we all went 7:30 p.m. (usually the kids' bedtime) on a Friday to the Monster Truck 'Bally' (as Harper referred to it).
I have to say that I learned a lot about the monster truck world. Like, I had no idea it was actually a sport with rules and tournaments and such. I just thought they drove around and did tricks and smashed things. Harper loved it and was kind of serious about it between clapping fits.
We had a lot of fun. I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would. At one point Ash & Helena were ready to leave (she was falling asleep in the chair) and I was all "What? We can't go now!?!"
Some tips on attending a monster truck event:
1. Maybe consider buying the more expensive seats. And even the cheap seats aren't really all that cheap. I'll just say the 'company' in the cheap seats was maybe more interesting than it needed to be. Although not outside of the realm of the expected. I did see someone puke.
2. I was glad we were in the upper deck, however, because it's so noisy and there is dust and exhaust fumes aplenty. Pick your poison, I guess. I wanted to shower when I got home. I think Harper might have been scared if we were super close.
3. Take really good ear protection. And make sure your husband packs some for you, too.
4. Don't leave early. The best part is at the end.

Hey! My blog still works!
Sorry guys! I can't explain why I took such a long break -- lots of excuses -- but hopefully I can get back on the wagon. To make it less overwhelming for me, we're all just going to have to deal with the 'gap' in events from October until now. OK friends? Great. :) For some reason if I don't feel like my blog is a correct chronological retelling of events I feel like a loser. But I'm working on it...
So to get back to 'theme' here's some recent, cute pics of the kiddos (link below). Enjoy! (Hope this works!)

P.S. - Thanks to all of you who registered formal complaints about the lack of blogging. :) I apprecaite knowing you're 'there'!!
