Our Little Artist

Helena is very into drawing these days.  I think some of her four year old friends at school taught her how to draw faces recently.  This is a pic of "Mommy playing basketball"...so sweet.  And honestly, it looks just about how I would draw it myself.

Spring Break at Our House!

I'm a tad bit late blogging about this, but...we had some fun spring break visitors at our house a couple of weeks ago.  My mom, brother, his girlfriend and two friends came out to visit us and, more importantly, get some major mountain time in.

My mom was gracious enough to babysit the kiddos while we skied/snowboarded all weekend. I really wish we could get more ski time in, but it's just hard to pick up and go up there with the kids sometimes (not to mention expensive)!  So we really appreciate the visitors that come and make us get out!

Extra bonus was that it was the best basketball weekend of the year, so we all got to watch the games together.  Very fun!
The snowboarding crew.  Evan, Kailey, Brandon, and Nate.  It was Kailey's first time snowboarding and she did awesome...she was rollin' with the rest of us on the second day!
Ash and I on the lift at Brighton.  My gator makes me look like I have a fat, disfigured face.  I need a new one.  Or I need to learn how to wear my existing one.  Also, my new ski helmet is awesome...I can call people from it and rock out to my music! ;)
Also on this trip I successfully (but not on purpose ) navigated my first double black diamond at Brighton.  Nate & Ash were along for the ride.  Let's just say it was a good thing I had had two beers at lunch or I might have cried/really freaked out.  And we may or may not had to make a major walk of shame across the parking lot to avoid having to do it again.

Farming Bridges

For all you transportation nerds out there, here's what Ash is doing tonight - watching a bridge move from the farm where it was built into its permanent bridge/road home.  The bridge is the longest two-span bridge (354 ft.) that has ever been moved using Self Propelled Modular Transporters in the Western Hemisphere.  (Wow, can you tell that last sentence was from a press release or what?!?)  Anyway, Ash's company is part of the team moving the bridge.  It really is pretty crazy, interesting stuff.

Here's the video from the news tonight (below) and the newspaper article

I'm praying everything goes smoothly and safely.  Ash, feel free to correct any technical errors in my writing in the comments. ;)

Snow Hawks!

Pretty sure these pics will define my day ...

1. It's so not fully spring here:
Backyard, this morning.  And it's still coming down.

2.  Rock Chalk Jayhawk!  (And finally, forward crawling.  Our lives are forever changed....)

9 months old yesterday!  What is up with my hair?!?

They're Watching Us

Whilst out running errands today, we came upon this:

And I swear it was the only cloud in the sky.

Then Helena starts saying, "Mom, why is that cloud following us?" (It really wasn't, but she for real said that.)

Creeped. Out.

Same Stuff, Different Day

Just can't help myself...this really is possibly the most entertaining thing going on with me lately.  Sad, I know.

Here's Harper in another precarious situation due to his back-crawling.  I have no idea how he even got under the table in the first place (it was Helena's turn to be in charge).  But, he wasn't happy.  Especially once he figured out his foot was stuck between the legs of the chairs.

I'm off to put up our kiddie gates!

Reverse

Oh, the perils of only being able to crawl backwards...

-Isms Part Two

Some random Helena-isms of late:

Constructions = Instructions
Splashlight = Flashlight
Splush = Flush (We need to work on our F's evidently.)
Thumbprints = Footprints, hand prints, fingerprints
Tutu = Tattoo (As in the fake kind that someone gave her for Christmas.)
Chompstick = Chapstick
Snowflykes = Snowflakes (I actually prefer her word for this. Totally logical.  I also feel the same about splashlight.)

Writing out this list reminds me of the time when I was, oh, about 17, when I realized all these years that the weather guy was saying the wind chill temperature was -10 degrees instead of windshield.  The day of this realization, I actually held my hand up to touch the windshield of the car after hearing the wind chill temperature announced on the radio (my mom and my friend AimeeLiz were present) and said, "Huh, it doesn't feel like -10 degrees!"  Cue the chorus of laughter and poking fun for several years to come.  And on the same day I mistook a funeral home for a church.  Not enough blood to the brain that day.
